Environmental Issues
IMPORTANT POINTS
Pollution refers to any situation in which the natural environment is altered in an unfavourable way, whether by chemical, biological, or physical means. Pollutants are substances that cause these alterations.
Burning fossil fuels including coal, petroleum, cars, and industry contribute significantly to air pollution. They should be decreased because they are toxic to living things. Noise pollution is caused by excessively loud, unwanted noise and can be mitigated by lowering volume levels. Diseases of all kinds can be brought on by merely drinking water that has been polluted. Dissolved oxygen is typically depleted and BOD is typically increased by domestic waste and industrial effluents. Eutrophication is caused by nutrient-rich water pollutants, such as those that leach nitrogen and phosphorus into the water.
Biomagnifications describe the rise in concentration of nonbiodegradable toxic waste such as DDT at different trophic levels of the food chain.
Extra work is needed for the disposal of hazardous garbage, such as radioactive materials and electronic trash.
Soil contamination is caused by the use of agrochemicals like pesticides, fertilisers, and plastic.
More emission of gases like CO2, CH4, CFCs, and nitrous oxides, as well as deforestation, have led to major environmental problems like the green house effect and the depletion of the ozone layer in the stratosphere. When this happens, temperatures around the world rise and the atmosphere undergoes dramatic shifts that are harmful to all forms of life. Due to CFCs, the ozone layer is depleting, which raises the risk of skin cancer, mutation, and other diseases.
The Indian government has instituted the idea of Joint Forest Management to facilitate cooperative forest management between government agencies and local populations.
The Indian government has implemented the concept of joint forest management in an effort to preserve the country's forests and the environment more generally by enlisting the assistance of both forest personalities and local communities in the task of conserving and managing the country's wooded areas.
